Why Our Skin Changes Each Season

6th December, 2017

Now we’re in the depths of winter and hopefully you’ve read our How To Protect Your Skin In Winter blog post, we’re asking why our skin changes from season to season. Your epidermis (the outer layer of your skin) protects the deeper layers of your skin from harsh and extreme weather conditions, which means it has to be tough and ready for anything! It’s important to change your skincare routine to suit the current climate as your epidermis has new challenges each day, so Why Does Our Skin Change Each Season?

1. Central Heating
It’s essential for those cold days, but it plays havoc with your skin. Warmer air inside causes low humidity, which leads to water evaporating from our skin and causing dry and flaky skin.

2. Humidity Levels
A turn in the weather and temperature results in a lack of moisture in the air, which it then replaces by sucking the moisture from you skin! This is an inevitable change, so we advise you apply a serum and moisturiser for extra protection.

3. Hot baths and showers
After a cold day outside, a hot bath or shower may be all you’re thinking about. However too hot water can dissolve the protective barrier from your skin, causing it to dry out.

So what can we do about it? Hyaluronic Acid is the best ingredient for replenishing your skin with the moisture it’s lost. We recommend the Hyaluronic¬† Serum, which has 5 x more the water binding capacity than regular Hyaluronic Acid.
